The events described in this book start in the region of Myrskylä in early 19th century. When a family loses its home in Liljendal, the two sons end up looking for work in Helsinki. Finland’s struggle for independence, the Fennoman ideology, the wars, and the National Socialist Party (IKL) leave no one unmoved. Five generations of the family establish homes when in Oulu and Kittilä, when in Helsinki, Ähtäri, Kuusamo, Petsamo, Loviisa, and Sweden, even far away in China and in America.
