This course will provide a brief but systematic overview of the following topics:

— The primary sources for genealogical research in Finland, and how to access them, including church records, government records, court records, maps, immigration, and emigration records.

— Introduction to Finnish archives, genealogical databases, and online resources

— Basic understanding of Finnish history and geography as relevant for genealogical research

— Tools for reading old handwriting

— Finnish names and understanding the onomastic system in Finland
